Bargaining Team
Meets as needed during contract hours at Twin Lakes UniServ
Attends Coordinated Bargaining sessions at the Monrovia RRC
One week of training at UCLA required in the summer(2 years)
The team currently has two openings. Applications have gone out so we can know which unit members have an interest in serving on this committee.
Five member team with teachers representing all levels. Duties include surveying the membership, preparing proposals and writing contract language, negotiating with the District team until a Tentative Agreement is reached subject to ratification by the membership.
BTSA Steering
Meets once a month at the D.O.
Joint committee of Administrators, participating and mentor teachers, and college professors. Oversees the BTSA program and its compliance to BTSA regulations.
Communications
Meets as needed
If you are interested in helping BPEA continue to publish its on-line newsletter or in getting accurate information out to the parents/community on a regular basis, then this is the committee for you.
Community Outreach
Meets as needed
Live in the community? Know important business, city, or church affiliates? Help BPEA cultivate a partnership with the community we serve and keep them informed of our issues to bring about public support when necessary.
Curriculum Council
Meets the first Thursday of each month at the D.O.
ECC(Elementary) meets from 3:15-4:15pm in PDTC1
SCC(Secondary) meets from 3:15-4:15pm in the Board Room
Discusses curriculum based issues and approves pacing guides, course outlines, and new course offerings.
District-wide Safety
Meets once a quarter at the D.O.
BPEA appoints three representatives, one elementary, one middle, and one high school, to this committee. Provides training and guidelines for protecting staff from a wide variety of safety risks, including but not limited to violence in the work place,suspicious or unwanted persons at the work site, fire, earthquake, and flood evacuations.
Elections
Meets as needed
Handles all local, state and national elections in accordance with BPEA/CTA/NEA election guidelines by establishing election timelines, preparing and counting ballots, and certifying the results.
This committee will also be tasked with following the necessary procedures to get us back to on-line voting!
Fringe Benefits
Meets once or twice a month on Wednesdays at the PAC
Joint District committee consisting of the 5 employee groups that will make the final recommendation to the School Board for approval of next year's Health Benefit carriers and plans.
Grievance
Meets as needed
Assist colleagues with paperwork and timelines so they can navigate the grievance process successfully.
Organizing
Meets as needed
Cultivates an informed, strong, united group of educated members. Strives to strengthen and maintain on an on-going basis the organizational power base of our members.
Our hope would be to have one member from each site on this team who would work closely with their Site Rep to encourage participation in organizing activities.
Peer Assistance and Review
Meets every other month in the D.O.
Joint committee of three teachers and two Administrators. Responsibilities include making sure the program is run according to legislation, selecting and assigning the Consulting Teachers, and reviewing progress of PAR participants.
Political Action
Meets as needed
With an important November election fast approaching we need motivated members to help us spread the word to our colleagues, friends and families about current Propositions and how they will effect our livelihoods and student learning.
This committee will also prepare for next year's School Board election of three seats.
Professional Development Team
Meets at least quarterly at the D.O.
Comprised of equal representation by Administration and teachers of all levels. Responsibilities include annually surveying the certificated staff for PD needs, developing District-wide annual planning, articulation, and coordination of activities, and providing training evaluation tools.
Scholarship/Philanthropy
Meets as needed
Solicit applications from all three high schools for our annually awarded scholarships. Choose recipients from applications received.
Find local causes for BPEA to participate in and/or donate to.
Special Ed Task Force
Meets once a quarter at the D.O.
Joint committee to examine Special Education including SDC, RSP, Speech and Language, and Health Service programs to determine recommended program requirements, needs, and class size. Committee is advisory to the Superintendent.
